NAT 28 is pleased to announce the return of its Call For Scores for Pittsburgh-based composers. The purpose of this Call For Scores is to further NAT 28's mission of supporting a network of young composers from the Pittsburgh area and celebrating the creation of new music.
Guidelines:
- The Call For Scores will be open to chamber works incorporating at least three (3) and up to all of the following seven (7) instruments: flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano, percussion. Scores are limited to one part per instrument listed - for example, a score requiring two percussionists would not be considered.
- The duration of the piece must be no longer than twelve (12) minutes. Works can have been previously performed.
- Parts must be included in the score submission.
- No distinction will be made among applicants on the basis of nationality, sex, color, creed, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or veteran status, but this call for scores is for emerging composers. It is recognized that composers can begin their career at any age. Therefore ‘emerging’ is defined by the composer themselves, though will be at the discretion of judges. Example definitions of emerging include:
*Currently in education or recently left
*Not receiving regular commissions
*Not holding a full-time faculty position
These are not exhaustive examples.
Performance Details:
A panel of NAT 28 members will select three winning compositions. The selected pieces will be presented at NAT 28's annual Pittsburgh Composers Project concert. The concert will take place on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at 7:30 pm at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater (5941 Penn Ave). Composers of selected scores will receive an award of $500 to aid in their attendance of the event. They will also receive a recording of their piece from the concert.
